Ramat Elchanan Resident Experienced ‘Clinical Death’ and Returned to His Body

A resident of the Ramat Elchanan neighborhood of Bnei Brak experienced ‘clinical death’ and saw angels judging him and deciding to return him to life. HaGaon Rav Yitzchak Zilberstein ruled his words are “אמת ויציב” but instructed him not to publicize the events.
Many Jews who experienced clinical death have provided testimony about leaving their body and seeing a white light, and angels heading to a tunnel and meeting with persons related who were niftar, so one may ask if this is true.
The Ramat Elchanan resident was almost ‘a vegetable’ but awakened. When Rav Zilberstein heard the details of the event, he stated without hesitation that this is what occurred.
In the neighborhood Kol Berama bulletin, the story was quoted by Rabbi Baruch Zolberg, who testified that it was “a respectable and serious man who has for many years served in an important and responsible position and one can count on every word he utters and his imagination is very far from who he is, meaning that his words are to viewed as reliable.
The man in question suffered a stroke two years ago which made him totally paralyzed and unresponsive for a number of days, and when the diagnostic tests were completed, it was determined that he sustained serious brain damage from the stroke. Doctors decided that based on his condition and diagnostic testing, there is no chance of the man returning to a normal life and told persons close to him that he would remain “a vegetable” for the remainder of his life.
The man described to the rav that heard everything the doctors were saying as he described leaving his body. At a certain point he saw persons dressed in white without seeing faces. They were judging his actions and suddenly, he heard shouting that he has many merits, and he must be returned to life, to the “same life” and after some time, his body began warning until he awakened.
When Rav Zilberstein was asked if this sounds like something that really occurred, he stated ” ודאי שייך ואמת ויציב”.
The rav instructed him to make a Seudas Hodaya for members of his kollel and only to tell them and not the newspapers.

SHOCK: Boyan Beis Medrash in Modi’in Illit Ransacked, Sifrei Torah Scorched, Silver Ornaments Stolen

Vandals broke into the Boyan Beis Medrash overnight on Monday in Modi’in Illit and ransacked the site, causing extensive damage, including scorching two Sifrei Torah.
The men who arrived in the early hours of the morning to the beis medrash were shocked to discover that the Aron Kodesh was breached and two of the Sifrei Torah were scorched. Some of the Sifrei Torah’s silver ornaments had been stolen as well as all of the shul’s security cameras, which had been installed only recently. Traces of bleach and lighting fuel were found at the scene.
A police source told Chareidim 10: “There was a burglary attempt, apparently with a tool that caused sparks and fire but there was no intentional act of arson.”
The men who discovered the shocking scene called the police who immediately arrived at the beis medrash and opened an investigation.
“On Monday morning, a report was received by the police on a break-in to a shul in the city of Modi’in Illit,” Israel Police stated. ” According to the report, damage was caused to the Sifrei Torah, to the shul, and silver ornaments were stolen. Police forces and forensic investigators arrived at the scene and began gathering evidence and an investigation was opened.”
Deputy Minister Meir Porush said: “A despicable act has been carried out in Israel. It’s shocking and painful to see the Aron Kodesh deliberately set on fire. I’m in contact with District Commander Moshe Barkat who is on the scene in order to speed up the investigation and find the criminals who committed this abominable act.”
The vandalism is believed to have been a criminal act rather than nationalistic.

Charity helping struggling families with vouchers goes into administration

Insolvency experts were hired on Tuesday after the Society of Friends of the Torah went bust - despite recent accounts showing a surplus of £3m

An Orthodox Jewish charity in London that operates a voucher system for struggling Jewish families has gone bust, meaning all existing vouchers are now worthless.
Insolvency experts were hired on Tuesday after the Society of Friends of the Torah (SOFT) went administration, despite its most recently published accounts showing that it had a surplus of almost £3 million.
Michael Goldstein of RG Insolvency said the administrators “acknowledge and sympathise with the difficulty this will cause to many within the community”.
He said “all voucher booklets and pre-paid vouchers will no longer be honoured by the charity” and that “any recipients of SOFT charity vouchers will not be able to cash any vouchers that they may hold”.
He added that he was “working with the charity’s trustees and other professional advisers in order to deal with the charity’s financial position as well as to properly investigate the circumstances leading to the current situation”.
The voucher system was based on tax relief. Donors gifted the Golders Green charity an amount under the Gift Aid Scheme, and the charity then recovered the tax upon that gift, thereby increasing the amount available for distribution to recipients.
Each account holder received a voucher book, which enabled them to give to any charity of their choice. In addition, the charity made grants to recognised institutions which it said worked only with the “genuinely poor or needy”.
The charity’s most recent accounts, as published on the Charity Commission’s website showed that it made donations of more than £20.5 million in 2017 and registered a bank surplus of more than £2.8 million. They were audited by Golders Green based Martin+Heller Accountants.
SOFT had eight employees and was part of an umbrella group of charities that included Agudas Israel Community Services, run by Michael Posen, which was named in a BBC File on Four documentary last year which alleged involvement in widespread fraud in the Orthodox community. Agudas denies any wrongdoing.

Chareidi Minor Who Smuggled “Khat” Substance Is Released From Ireland After 3 Months

A Chareidi girl from Israel, who smuggled a large amount of the Yemenite drug khat into Ireland three months ago together with a friend, was released on Tuesday. The girl, who is still a minor, was released without charge, a Chareidim 10 report said.
The girl’s friend, also Chareidi and in her early 20s, remains in Irish custody.
Attorney Mordechai Tzivin, who is active in international crime, extradition and Interpol, told Chareidim 10: “All the credit is due to Chabad shaliach Harav Zalman Shimon Lent. If it wasn’t for his intervention, there’s no way she would have been released.”
The two girls were arrested in Ireland three months ago and were released on bail to house arrest in the home of the Chabad shaliach, where they spent Rosh Hashana and the other Yamim Tovim.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry has published multiple warnings to Israeli travelers about smuggling khat, which is legal in Israel. Dozens of Israelis have been arrested in various countries in the past two years for smuggling khat, which is so widely sought in Europe that one kilogram can be sold for a few hundred euros.
Over 15 Israelis were arrested in Hamburg, Germany in the past year and were released after being jailed for two months. There are also Israelis imprisoned in France and Czechoslovakia for over three months, with no release date in sight.
Tzivin, who has been active in securing the release of many Israelis on a volunteer basis, said: “Most of those arrested are from low-income families, some of whom are yeshiva bochurim and innocent girls. The dealers tell them that it’s not dangerous and not considered drugs.”
Khat has been used traditionally for centuries in Somalia, Yemen and Ethiopia and khat chewing is an important social ritual there in all types of settings including khat cafes (mafrishes). Although some view it as a mild stimulant, there is evidence that khat is addictive and long term use or abuse has been linked to various disorders, including insomnia, anorexia, gastric disorders, depression, liver damage, heart attacks and psychiatric disorders. Some say that khat is used as a substitute for alcohol in countries where alcohol is prohibited for religious reasons.
The use of khat spread to Europe and North America together with immigrants from Africa and the Middle East, but unlike the immigrants who view khat like coffee, most Western countries place it in the same category as cocaine.
“It is definitely not like coffee,” Garrison Courtney, spokesman for the Drug Enforcement Administration, told the Los Angeles Times in a 2009 article about khat. “It is the same drug used by young kids who go out and shoot people in Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan. It is something that gives you a heightened sense of invincibility and when you look at those effects, you could take out the word ‘khat’ and put in ‘heroin’ or ‘cocaine.'”
Others add that khat is linked to violence in Somalia.
The UK banned khat in 2013, joining the US, which banned it in 1993, Canada and most European countries.
