WE HAVE TO BE DEAD OR DYING TO WAKE UP OUR PITY

A Chai Lifeline Girl’s Wish & The Rosh Yeshiva’s Bracha [VIDEO & PHOTOS]

A powerful video of the Lakewood Rosh Yeshiva Harav Yeruchem Olshin shlita’s bracha to a little girl at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was shown to a crowd of thousands last night at the Chai Lifeline dinner in Ateres Chana – Bais Faiga hall in Lakewood, NJ.
A young girl with a brain tumor who had been confined to the hospital for weeks asked the rosh yeshiva, who visited her in the hospital, for a bracha to be able to go to Camp Simcha. Although the doctors did not think it was likely, she held on to the Rosh Yeshiva’s bracha and continued to hope. When the first day of camp arrived and she was unable to leave the hospital, dedicated Chai Lifeline volunteers brought Camp Simcha activities to her hospital room. However, she still dreamed of going to camp because, in her own words, “It’s a place where I feel understood.” With intervention from the Chai Lifeline case managers, she was able to leave the hospital and go to Camp Simcha for the last two days of camp.
The video was the highlight of the evening’s program, which opened with divrei bracha from the Lakewood Rosh Yeshiva Harav Malkiel Kotler shlita. The Rosh Yeshiva expressed how Chai Lifeline’s chesed has impacted hundreds of families in the Lakewood community.
Rabbi Simcha Scholar, CEO of Chai Lifeline, then spoke about how Chai Lifeline exists for a single reason: to be there for families battling illness in our community. “The rising needs of the Lakewood community are very significant. The number of new cases rises each year,” he said. Rabbi Scholar stressed that every member of Chai Lifeline is focused on filling the growing need and ensuring that every family affected by illness receives the help they so desperately need.
The Master of Ceremonies Harav Baruch Rabinowitz shlita, Rav of Talymwar in Toms River, shared how Chai Lifeline has been there for his family with attention to even the tiniest details. The crowd was moved by his personal stories and heartfelt words of gratitude for all Chai Lifeline has done for his family.
Dr. Robert Berg, Division Chief of Critical Care at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, accepted the Community Service Award on behalf of the entire team at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The award was presented by Rav Yitze Scheinerman and Rav Dovi Sorotzkin, who described how the PICU is not only one of the foremost pediatric intensive care units in the world, but also leads in culturally sensitive, humanity-centered care. He emotionally shared how his son has been personally impacted by the deep sensitivity of the doctors and nurses in the unit. He also praised the steadfast partnership between Chai Lifeline and CHOP, which has benefitted many patients and their families.
Dr. Berg also presented on recent advances in pediatric critical care to over 50 local rabbanim prior to the dinner.
The large turnout at the dinner was a source of chizuk to Chai Lifeline’s volunteers, staff, and most importantly, the families battling illness who have come to rely on Chai Lifeline at every step of their medical journey. As Rabbi Scholar said, “It’s only through the unified support of the entire community that we can continue to service and help this population in their most difficult situations.”

A MISTAKE IN OUR ATTITUDE

KIDDUSH HASHEM: Chareidi Optician in England Sets Up Water Station To Help Locals Beat Heatwave

The Majority of Europe is dealing with a massive heatwave this week, as temperatures in France hit above 106 Fahrenheit, but one Chareidi man made a Kiddush Hashem.
The Chareidi optician set up a water station outside his store that offered free water to passersby.
The British newspaper “The Guardian” stated that this has been the hottest heatwave, and the hottest temperatures recorded since 2003.
Even northern countries such as Germany, Belgium and Holland, have been hit by the heatwave.  In many parts of these countries, where residents are unused to such temperatures, many homes and offices do not even have air conditioning.
During the previous heatwave of this magnitude in August 2003, some  15,000 people died across Europe as a result of the extreme heat.
The current mega-heatwave is already the second this season. The previous heatwave claimed the lives of dozens of people across the continent and caused numerous brush and forest fires.

THEY CALL EVERYTHING A KIDDUSH HASHEM

KIDDUSH HASHEM: Anne Neuberger, Shomer Shabbos, Bais Yaakov Graduate Appointed As NSA Cybersecurity Directorate

The National Security Agency announced Tuesday it is creating a new Cybersecurity Directorate, which will “unify NSA’s foreign intelligence and cyberdefense missions and is charged with preventing and eradicating threats to National Security Systems and the Defense Industrial Base.”
The new directorate — which will become operational on October 1 — is to be headed up by Anne Neuberger, who has been leading the NSA’s Russia Small Group.

She has been with NSA for close to 10 years. Neuberger has helped establish U.S. Cyber Command, served as chief risk officer, and is currently an assistant deputy director at NSA. Prior to her time at NSA, Neuberger was the deputy chief management office at the U.S. Navy.In her new position, Mrs. Neuberger, who worked in the private sector before joining the Defense Department and is from Brooklyn, N.Y., will be one of the highest-ranking women at the NSA since Ann Caracristi was named deputy director in 1980.
Mrs. Neuberger said in an interview that she will report to Gen. Nakasone and that the directorate will more actively use signals intelligence gleaned from expanded operations against adversaries. The directorate will work to protect the U.S. from foreign threats by sharing more insights about specific cyber threats with other federal agencies and the private sector.
“Anne is an exceptional leader and truly talented,’’ said retired Army Gen. Keith Alexander, who served as NSA director from 2005 to 2014 and is co-chief executive of the cybersecurity firm IronNet.
“The Cybersecurity Directorate will reinvigorate our white hat mission opening the door to partners and customers on a wide variety of cybersecurity efforts. It will also build on our past successes such as Russia Small Group to operationalize our threat intelligence, vulnerability assessments, and cyber defense expertise to defeat our adversaries in cyberspace,” the agency said in a statement.
Neuberger led the NSA’s election security efforts for the 2018 midterms, having served as the NSA’s first chief risk officer. She told the Wall Street Journal that the Cybersecurity Directorate “will more actively use signals intelligence gleaned from expanded operations against adversaries.”
Anne (Chani) Neuberger grew up in Boro Park, and went to Bais Yaakov of Boro Park. She lives in Baltimore.

VIZHNITZER REBBE

Vizhnitzer Rebbe Postpones Travel Plans Until Yeshiva Workers Receive Pay Checks

1
The Vizhnitzer Rebbe announced on Sunday that he will push off his annual two-month excursion to Switzerland until all of the Yeshiva workers get paid their salaries.
The educational institutions belonging to the Vizhnitzer Chassidim have been in the process of undergoing a massive overhaul in their organizational framework. The schools, and Cheders, as well as Talmud Torahs, have all begun the process of privatization in order to establish a Menahel at the head of each institution that will deal with making certain that the workers in his institution are properly cared for and paid on time.
Since Pesach, when the last crisis occurred, many of the institutions have fully undergone the privatization process and are now being run by a direct menahel instead of by a centralized committee.
However, as some of the institutions have not yet fully undergone this process nor complied with paying their teachers and staff, the Rebbe has made a public announcement stating that he will forgo his vacation until every institution is sorted out.
During the Pesach crisis, the  Rebbe said that he would not sit down to Seder until the issue was sorted out and that caused a lot of feverish activity to try to sort the issues out then, but not all of the institutions were successfully able to implement the changes necessary in order to carry out the privatization process fully.
The Chassidic group held a widespread fundraising campaign in Adar in order to help finance the process and make sure there was enough money for everyone to be paid. The Adar fundraising campaign allowed each Menahel to receive their institution without having any overhead deficit. However, the costs incurred since then, have caused a lot of chaos in certain institutions. The Chassidius is hoping to have the costs covered soon.

MORE SHOCKING FOOTAGE: Israeli Cops Drive Motorcycle Into Yeshiva Bochur, Drag Him By His Peyos

Following the suspension of an Israeli police officer for dragging a Chareidi protester this past Friday by his peyos, new disturbing footage has surfaced showing the same behavior by Israeli Police.
The attached showing footage was released by Bichadrei Charieidm and given to YWN.
It is from a protest in Bnei Brak around 7 months ago.
A complaint was made to police, but nothing ever happened, and no action was taken.
Watch how an officer drove a police motorcycle into a Yeshiva Bochur, and then other officers drag him forcefully by his Peyos, followed by him being violently kicked by police.
In light of recent Israel Police violence, Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan said at a ceremony to appoint new Northern Israel District commanders that there should be zero tolerance for unnecessary police violence. Erdan promised to fight against the phenomenon of police officers taking advantage of power and announced that a special unit would soon be established to combat the violence.
“That does not mean there are no mishaps. This does not mean that there are no violent police officers, who use force for the worse, and we have to deal with them disciplinarily or criminally. A violent policeman who does not know how to show restraint cannot stay in the police.
“This is my responsibility and that of the police commissioner, and I expect these norms from every commander in the organization. I have learned and am afraid that some policemen who acted against the law continue to serve in the organization and that there is forgiveness for unnecessary police violence. It also touches upon manifestations of racism.”
“The police have done amazing work in recent years in order to get closer to the chareidi public and the Ethiopian community and there were amazing achievements.”
Erdan revealed that he plans to set up a special unit to fight police violence.
Meanwhile, MK (Shas) Moshe Arbel on Monday evening turned to the head of the Justice Ministry’s Police Investigations Unit (PIU) regarding the investigation into the policeman documented pulling on the peyos of Yehoshua Mordechai Kroizer during his arrest in Beit Shemesh. Arbel indicates that the penal law states the policeman should be sentenced to three years imprisonment for his actions.
Arbel sent a letter to the unit’s head, attorney Karen Ben-Menachem, in which he explains that the video evidence in the case is clear and the responsible person, the policeman, must be held accountable.
He adds that the video is not complete, and there may be a cause for Kroizer’s detention pertaining to his actions prior to the arrest. However, even if there was just cause, this does not constitute a “free pass” for police to treat civilians as they wish, with violence or to humiliate them on the basis of religion. “There is absolutely no justification to pull a Jews’ peyos, and in general, regarding anyone resisting arrest, and certainly for one who does not resist. This is a disproportionate violation of human dignity”, he writes.
According to Arbel, “A Jew’s peyos have always been a sign of one’s Jewish identity, a symbol of his devotion, his beliefs and his religious affiliation. In his actions, it appears that the policeman had therefore committed an offense under section 170 of the Penal Code, which states: ‘A person who destroys, harms or desecrates a place of worship, or any object held sacred to the public for the purpose of abusing their religion, or knowingly that they may regard this act as an insult to their religion, shall be liable to three years imprisonment’. This, in addition to the offense of violence committed. The full extent of the law must be exhausted in the matter of the policeman.”
