Israeli Band Drops Out Of Eurovision Contention Over Shabbos

An Israeli band has dropped out of the Eurovision Song Contest because it would force some of its observant members to perform on Shabbos.
The Shalva group says Wednesday it’s quitting Israel’s qualifying competition after the Eurovision organizers said it would make no exceptions for Israel’s ultimate winner. The competition is held on a Motzei Shabbos, and the compulsory rehearsal falls on the Shabbos.

Shalva, which has several members who are blind or have Down syndrome, has become a fan favorite and serious contender to sing Israel’s entry. Israeli critics say the Eurovision seems tolerant of all besides Orthodox Jews.

MAY HASHEM MAKE ANOTHER MIRACLE AND HEAL ALL THE SICK OF THIS GROUP,

UNITED CHAREIDI BLOCK

Netanyahu Working To Create United Chareidi Bloc Including Shas

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is working to apply pressure to the Shas party towards having them agree to join with Yahadut Hatorah to create a chareidi bloc ahead of the upcoming election for 21st Knesset, which will take place on Tuesday, April 9,2019.
According to a Kikar Shabbos News report, people are working along with the prime minister to pressure Shas Chairman Minister Aryeh Deri, who is currently opposed to such a move, which he feels is contrary to the life work of Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L, who wanted to restore the sephardi pride and tradition. HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen, head of the Shas Moetzas Chachmei HaTorah also opposes the move, which he feels will leave Shas subordinate to the chareidi ashkenazi parties.
Netanyahu fears that too many votes for the right-wing parties will be lost and this places the future of another right-wing led coalition in jeopardy in addition to the fear, based on recent election polls, that Shas going it alone will not pass the electoral minimum required to enter Knesset, once again, losing those potential right-wing seats in Knesset.
Journalist Itai Kadassi reported on Sunday on ‘Kav Ha’Scoopim’ that he heard from a first-hand source from Rav Cohen that the rav remains adamantly opposed to uniting with the ashkenazim in the upcoming election.
News 12 correspondent Amit Segal reports that Netanyahu spoke with the head of Ichud Leumi, MK Betzalel Smotrich, working to persuade him to reach agreement with Otzma Yisrael, to run together, to avoid losing those votes as well.

FOLLOWING TRAGEDIES

Following Tragedies, Bnei Brak Rabbonim Speak Out Against Crossing On Red Light

In response to too many recent tragedies in Bnei Brak involving pedestrians, rabbonim in the city are calling on the tzibur to adhere to traffic signals, as required by halacha.
HaGaon HaRav Chaim Meir Wosner, HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Zilberstein and HaGaon HaRav Shimon Ba’adani turn to the tzibur in a letter, calling on pedestrians not to cross streets if the light is red.
“Due to recent traffic accidents in a number of places throughout the city, traffic lights were installed to prevent the danger to the lives of the passengers, and a great regulation was done.
“But there are those who cross on red lights, and old or young standing by them also cross the street thinking that the traffic lights are green, and thereby endangering their lives and the lives of others, and the little ones learn to cross the street at a red light.
“And since we were warned in the holy Torah about ‘Veneshmartem Linafshoseichem’ it is incumbent upon each and every one to wait patiently, and cross the street only with a green light, and to know that great responsibility rests upon him.

“We also appeal to educators and parents to raise the danger of crossing the streets on the red light,” the rabbonim said.

ACHDUS IS MOST IMPORTANT

ACHDUS: Litzman Hints That Merger Between UTJ and Shas is Forthcoming

Deputy Health Minister and Chairman of United Torah Judaism Yaakov Litzman has hinted that there may indeed be a unity between UTJ and Shas ahead of the upcoming election and that the two parties will run on a joint list.
During the Agudas Yisroel Conference on Wednesday, the party ratified the list of candidates that will run for the 21st Knesset. Litzman said during the conference that the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah has already ratified the move to join together with Shas.
“After we have succeeded at signing an agreement with Degel HaTorah, it seems likely that we will sign an agreement with Shas as well. The Moetzes has already agreed to the move and is working towards it. In addition, the polls are in favor of such a move,” said Litzman.
“If we join together and we prove that the committee can achieve its goals, we could greatly increase our strength, far more than what you believe possible,” he added.
